He is just a person who started a process of digging and searching for bible truths. He himself dug up some nice things , like the teaching of the mortality of the soul,.. the firehose on Hell to name a few. Furthermore he saw the need to spread the word all over the world and made a start. But having that said,.. he still had a lot of things to learn, to discover and to lighten up.His writings ( i have the old studies of the scripture volumes in print myself) are pretty much outdated and irrelavant. Collectors items and sometimes even funny to read. But we owe him thanks for starting up a process. That process is still ongoing."

JW apologist Emeth dismisses teachings of Russell as irrelevant, uninspired and even funny.. Maybe in the future jw's will say the same about todays Governing Body?

If you want to show a JW some of the older publications from a non-apostate and 'safe' website..
by The Quiet One in"it is appreciated that these documents do not reflect the current understanding of the bible enjoyed by jehovah's witnesses, and for up-to-date information the reader is encouraged to visit the official site of the watchtower bible and tract society.".

He never claimed to be inspired?? Sorry to repeat these quotes, but you may want to look at these again..
"In all his warnings he claimed no originality. He said that he could never have written his books himself. It all came from God, through the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit." ... "The Prophet was to find something. As Ezekiel ate the book in the hand of God, so the "faithful and wise servant" of this day absorbed, assimilated, the Plan of the Ages which was in the power (hand) of the Almighty..." -

Did Cedars manipulate Lee into having a thread closed?
by cedars ini will happily answer this question if there can be some guarantees this thread won't be deleted..

Here's a thought.. Can't we just stop bumping the darn thread with needless comments (such as some just using it as a platform to air their gripes) and just let it die? Let this be the last post, or this will still be getting rehashed tomorrow and the day after.. Let's leave it alone :)

why using a tablet at the platform during the meeting?
by Gorbatchov ini can't understand why the governing body aka fds has to deside about using a tablet by the speaker at the platform.. why using a tablet anyway at the platform?.
just a toy to keep the youth inside the congregation.. gorby.

Fair point, EMETH. Would you acknowledge, though.. that this 'old stuff' came from Jehovah himself, according to Russell (see quote above). If Jehovah guided him to write these things, they are surely not outdated and irrelevant? Or did Russell falsely claim to be taught by God, and that his books came from God?.. -

How about Sesame Street..No wait, for a male JW that may be too taxing. And it looks as though they've already got to Elmo.. (no disrespect by the way, I'm trying to heal with humour)

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

What choice does a venomous snake have, except to poison?.. Or a shark, except to kill and tear apart? How could a monkey ever learn how to treat the cancer that is slowly killing it? No theist can explain how their loving god has always allowed, if not intentionally designed.. Natural evil.
